The World Ploughing Contest is an event which is held in a different part of the world each year and it was last held in England in 1984. It was held in conjunction with the 50th British National Ploughing Championships on a 200 hectare (500 acre) site adjacent to the Lincolnshire Showground near Lincoln, between 14th and 17th September 2000. The first two days saw the 50th British National Ploughing Championships with a record number of 315 competitors taking part. The second two days was the world contest with competitors taking part from 30 nations - Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, Wales, Zimbabwe. The 2000 World Champions are John Hill from England (reversible) and Henry Thegan from Denmark (conventional). The two British Champions are Adrian Brewer and James Witty. |
