soplogo.gif (3048 bytes)Good ploughing still lies at the heart of proper soil management and the Society's main aim is to encourage and promote the art and skill of ploughing.   Ploughing not only improves soil structure by helping drainage and aerating the soil, it also helps to preserve the land for future generations of farmers.

'New blood' is actively encouraged by the Society and the annual Young Farmers Championship attracts a growing number of entries each year, and increasing number of whom are girls.

And from 1999 onwards, aspiring youngsters who cannot afford a match plough themselves have been able to borrow one from the Society, thanks to the generosity of some of Europe's leading plough manufacturers.

Aims and objectives

bulletTo promote and encourage the art, skill and science of ploughing the land.

bulletTo promote an annual British National Ploughing Contest to be held each year in Great Britain, comprising England, Scotland and Wales and the islands thereof.

bulletTo co-operate with similar organisations in other countries in organising World Championship Ploughing Competitions.

bulletTo provide facilities whereby the winners of local ploughing matches in Great Britain can by reason of their success compete for the British National Ploughing Championships and for the World Ploughing Championship and by such means foster and maintain a high standard of ploughmanship.

bulletTo provide facilities for demonstrations, works and trade displays at the British National Ploughing Contest.

To fulfil these objectives successfully, the Society needs the support of a large membership.  For further details on membership, click here.
